WE care about our environment
OUR COMMITMENT TO RECYCLED MATERIALS AND RECLAMATION
At Northern Lakes Concrete, our mission is to enhance the environment in which we operate. We take proactive measures to ensure the creation of a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.
Every material we use is 100% recyclable, positioning our industry as one of the greenest in the world. By prioritizing recycling, we contribute to reducing waste and conserving natural resources.
We are dedicated to responsible practices that not only benefit our business but also support environmental stewardship for future generations.
Recycled Concrete
We recycle a diverse range of concrete materials, including roadways, slabs, bricks, cinder blocks, and reinforced concrete with rebar. The recycling process involves breaking down the concrete into smaller pieces, separating the rebar for recycling as scrap metal, and crushing the remaining concrete. This crushed material is then repurposed as a sustainable substitute for traditional materials like road gravel, helping to reduce waste and conserve natural resources.
Recycled Fly Ash
Fly ash, a byproduct of coal-fired power plants, is produced in vast quantities—over 125 million tons annually. Rather than being discarded in landfills, this material is now repurposed as a valuable concrete additive. When incorporated into concrete mixtures, fly ash improves workability and enhances resistance to harmful sulphate and alkali reactions. It also reduces water requirements, minimizes aggregate segregation, and prevents bleeding, resulting in stronger, more durable concrete structures.
Recycled Shingles
At Northern Lakes Concrete, we are committed to sustainability through the recycling of asphalt shingles. We offer convenient collection services at our locations in Hurley and Phillips. For a nominal fee, you can bring your used shingles to us: $1.10 per cubic foot at Hurley and $22 per ton at Phillips. By recycling these materials, we help reduce landfill waste and conserve valuable resources.
Recycled Shingles
As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, Northern Lakes Concrete implements thorough reclamation practices at every one of our aggregate sources. This process involves building protective berms and replanting native grasses and trees. These efforts serve multiple purposes: they prevent soil erosion, mitigate noise pollution, and restore the natural landscape.
