Responsibility
We work in the communities we call home
At Pitlik & Wick, Inc., we work hard to make the environment we work in even better. We are proud to work in the communities we call home.
Every one of our products are 100% Recyclable. On top of that, many new technologies are now available to the asphalt industry that makes an already green industry even greener. Here are some of the ways in which Pitlik & Wick promotes environmental responsibility.
Recycled Asphalt Product
Recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) is the single largest recycled material in the United States. Approximately 80 million tons are recycled every year! Asphalt is 100% recyclable, and by recycling this valuable material, precious resources can be conserved. RAP can be used in new asphalt pavement, and can reduce the need for new materials by 35%. The amount of asphalt cement needed is also reduced. In the photo to the right, RAP is being milled off the road and loaded onto a truck
Fun Fact: In 1998, Pitlik & Wick Inc was the first company in the state of Wisconsin to successfully pave a Wisconsin Superpave Project with 20% RAP in the Mix. This design is now an industry standard.
Recycled Asphalt Shingles - From Roofs to Roads
Using recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) in new products is important in order to reduce the environmental impacts associated with the extraction, transportation, and processing of new materials. Using RAS conserves valuable landfill space, and reduces costs for manufacturers and consumers. Construction contractors and homeowners are also able to dispose of shingles free of charge and improve their image.

Warm Mix Asphalt
Warm mix asphalt (WMA) is a "green technology" that Pitlik & Wick produces. WMA is produced at a lower temperature than conventional hot mix asphalt. The lower temperatures result in less emissions and less consumption of fuel. This also allows the mix to be placed with virtually no fumes, smoke, or steam, as seen above.
Recycled Concrete
Pitlik & Wick also recycles many different forms of concrete, including roadways, slabs, bricks, cinder blocks, and more. Concrete with re-bar is also recycled. The concrete is broken into pieces and the re-bar is then separated from it and recycled as scrap metal. The concrete is later crushed and used as a substitute for other materials, such as road gravel.
Reclamation
Pitlik & Wick values the environment around us. All of our gravel pits have an active reclamation plan in place detailing how berms are built, slopes are graded, and grasses and trees are planted. Above is just one of our many examples of how a gravel pit is transformed into an environmentally friendly area.
